New selection committee meets tomorrow

The new selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will meet in Delhi tomorrow to select the captain for the home series against New Zealand.

The committee, headed by Chandu Borde, is likely to retain Sachin Tendulkar as the captain. Tendulkar was named captain till the L. G. Cup series in Nairobi. However, he pulled out of the tournament because of his ailing back. He is expected to be fit before the first Test.

The selection committee will also select the Rest of India team, which will play Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka at Bangalore from October 1, and the India 'A' and the Board President's teams, which will play the visiting New Zealanders in three-day matches at Pune and Jodhpur respectively.

The New Zealanders are scheduled to arrive in Mumbai on September 28 and will play India 'A' from September 30 to October 2, before meeting the Board President's XI from October 5 to 7. The visitors will also play Ranji champions Karnataka at Bangalore from October 17 to 19, the Board of Control for Cricket in India informed

The first Test will be held at Mohali from October 10 to 14. The second and third Tests will be held at Kanpur (October 22 to 26) and Ahmedabad (October 29 to November 2) respectively.

The tourists are also scheduled to play five one-dayers between November 5 to 17. The first will be held at Rajkot (November 5), the second at Hyderabad (November 8), the third at Gwalior (November 11), the fourth at Guwahati (November 14) and the fifth at Delhi (November 17).
