Tendulkar relinquishes Bombay captaincy

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar will not lead Bombay in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu, at the Wankhede stadium, from April 11 to 15.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) joint secretary Prof. Ratnakar Shetty announced on Tuesday that Tendulkar will play only as a batsman. "He requested to be relieved from the captaincy."

A month ago, Tendulkar had also relinquished India captaincy, which went to Saurav Ganguly.

Sameer Dighe, who led Bombay at the start of the season before being summoned for India duty in Australia, will lead the side while Amol Muzumdar will be his deputy.

The MCA had earlier requested the BCCI to delay the semi-final by two days to accommodate Tendulkar, who will be playing for Asia XI against the Rest of the World in the Cricket Week match in Dhaka on April 8.

Bombay will be bolstered by the return of Ajit Agarkar and main strike bowler Paras Mhambrey, who had missed the last few matches due to injury.
