Hockey camp ends abruptlyThe Indian hockey team's camp in preparation for the Sydney Olympics abruptly ended a few days before the scheduled close on Friday due to civil disturbances that erupted in Bangalore following the kidnap of a celluloid star Rajkumar by dreaded forest brigand Veerappan last Sunday. All the probables attending the final camp in the Garden City of Bangalore were forced to fly back to their respective homes across the country, and will regroup in Delhi on August 16 before leaving for the Gold Coast in Australia the next day. The final two-day trials to select a 22-member squad on Sunday and Monday were cancelled and even IHF honorary secretary K Jothikumaran, who is also named manager of the Olympic-bound team, failed to reach Bangalore as train services were disrupted for two days.
