Nirupama finds winning waysNirupama Vaidyanathan's good form at the $50,000 Lexington challenger continued as she pulled off another upset in the second round on Thursday. The Indian women's ace defeated 121-ranked Wynn Prakusya of Indonesia 6-2, 6-3. It was her third successive victory over Prakusya and fifth at the Lexington tournament. Nirupama also ended Prakusya's six-match wining streak. The victory gives Nirupama a total of 16.5 points (5 bonus included) and $1300 in prize-money. The points are enough to push her ranking up inside the top 180. Nirupama's quarter-final opponent is another qualifier, Eun-Ha Kim of Korea, who upset 135-ranked Julie Pullin 6-3, 6-2. Earlier, she had upset Nana Miyagi of Japan, in a tough three-setter in the first round, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5.
