Samaranch confident of Sydney securityIOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch remains confident about the safety of next month's Olympics despite the security scare over a possible plot to blow up a nuclear research reactor in Sydney. "I believe this will be a safe Olympics," Samaranch said in an interview with Spanish state television. "Every day there are negative stories but I don't have any doubts in the great work done by the organising country. "I don't have any fears, although of course I won't be able to be completely calm until the last day of the Games. "We should remember that since Munich in 1972 there hasn't been a single important incident within Olympic installations." Samaranch was speaking after New Zealand police said they had uncovered a possible plot by Afghan refugees to blow up a nuclear research reactor in Sydney during the Games. Australian authorities said they believed there was "no credible threat" at this time to the reactor on the outskirts of the city. Related stories:
