Romanian triple jumper banned for lifeRomanian triple jumper Rodica Mateescu has been banned for life from the Olympics after she tested positive for nandrolone, a Romanian Athletics Federation (FRA) official said on Tuesday. The ban was handed down by the Romanian Olympic Committee (COR). "Mateescu tested positive on a second sample which made the COR's decision definitive," FRA general secretary Nicolae Marasescu told Reuters by phone. Marasescu said Mateescu tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid last May during a training session in the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta. According to Romanian Olympic Committee rules, a performer testing positive is automatically banned for life from any Olympic activity. Mateescu, a world silver medallist in 1997 and a member of Romania's Olympic squad, was not available for comment. Read other stories relating to drugs
