New Zealand make it 5-0

New Zealand beat the West Indies by 20 runs in the fifth and final one-day cricket international in Christchurch today to complete a clean sweep of the five-match one-day series.

Earlier, the Kiwis had won the three-Test series 2-0.

The result meant that the West Indies ended their nine-match tour without a victory. They were only able to draw the two first-class games of the tour.

It is the worst performance by a team on a full tour of New Zealand. In1982-83, Sri Lanka had won just one game out of 10.

Today, New Zealand posted their highest one-day total against the West Indies as they piled 302 for six while batting first. The West Indies fought valiantly, with Sherwin Campbell leading the way with 71, but were all out on the second last ball for 282.

A record partnership of 170 against the West Indies by Roger Twose and Nathan Astle was the feature of New Zealand's victory. Twose claimed the man of the match award for his 97 off 90 balls, which beat his previous highest one-day score of 92 against the United Arab Emirates in the 1996 World Cup.

Astle scored 85 off 109 balls. It was his third 50 of the series and took tally in the five games to 320 at an average of 80.
