Das, Kumaran rout BombayBoard President's XI, Bengal and Karnataka entered the semi-finals of the Wills Trophy cricket tournament with victories over Bombay, Punjab and Wills XI respectively in quarter-final matches played today. Board President's XI, spurred by a brilliant unbeaten century from 22-year-old Shiv Sunder Das and fiery bowling by T Kumaran, beat Bombay by 28 runs at Bangalore, while Bengal accounted for Punjab by five wickets at Madras and Karnataka got the better of Wills XI by two wickets at Hyderabad. Batting first, Mohammad Azharuddin's Board President's XI piled 272 for 6 wickets in 50 overs, with Das scoring 133 (13 fours and 2 sixes) off only 140 balls, Jyoti Yadav 45 and Azharuddin 24. In reply, Bombay could only muster 244 before collapsing in 48.1 overs. Opener Wasim Jaffer (43 off 52 balls) and Amol Muzumdar (50 off 88 balls) were the lone Bombay batsmen to shine as T Kumaran ripped through the innings to finish with five wickets for 37 runs from 9.1 overs. At Madras, Punjab, batting first, were all out for 196 in 49.4 overs. Bengal got the required runs, scoring 197 for 5 in 45.2 overs. Karnataka went through some anxious moments against Wills XI before winning by two wickets. Replying to Wills's 215 all out in 49 overs, they scored 216 for 8 in 48 overs. In the semi-finals on January 14, Board President's XI take on Bengal at Madras while Madhya Pradesh, who had a bye, meet Karnataka at Bangalore. Scoreboards
