Dravid hits unbeaten 182

Zimbabwe endured a punishing day in the field as Indian batsman Rahul Dravid hit a brilliant unbeaten 182 to help Kent compile an imposing total of 380 for five on the penultimate day of their four-day tour match on Thursday.

Dravid, Kent's overseas player for 2000, recorded his maiden hundred for the county, slowly increasing in confidence after a cautious start. Busy at first on the leg side, Dravid began to cut and drive fluently as Kent raced past the tourists' first innings total of 159.

The highest scorer of last year's World Cup added 104 in 27 overs with Alan Wells (58) after Kent had lost Robert Key and nightwatchman David Masters before a run had been scored off the bat.

Wells, driving sweetly, was caught off the top edge by Neil Johnson sweeping at his 109th ball from left-arm spinner Dirk Viljoen on the stroke of lunch.

But James Hockley (74), playing in only his third first class match, hit a maiden half-century in a 208-run partnership with Dravid.
