Ivanisevic, Canas bag ATP awardsWimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic has picked up more honours for his thrilling run at the All England Club by being named ATP Player of the Month for July. Argentina's Guillermo Canas, a finalist in Stuttgart, has been named ATP Rising Star of the Month. Ivanisevic's emotional victory at Wimbledon -- where he had been a finalist on three previous occasions -- helped him improve 72 places in the ATP Champions Race 2001, where he now stands in 11th position. The Croat became the first wildcard to win a Grand Slam title with victories over Andy Roddick, Greg Rusedski, Marat Safin, Tim Henman and Patrick Rafter. Canas, 23, who won the title in Casablanca earlier this year and reached the final in Den Bosch, jumped six places to 14th after earning 66 ATP Champions Race 2001 points. En route to the Stuttgart final last month, Canas posted impressive victories over defending champion Franco Squillari and second seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov, before he eventually fell to Gustavo Kuerten. Other candidates for ATP Player of the Month were Wimbledon finalist Rafter, who earned 140 points and jumped to sixth position in the Race, as well as Los Angeles champion and current Race leader Andre Agassi, Britain's Tim Henman and Gstaad winner Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic. Among those in the running for Rising Star of the Month honors included first time ATP winner Tommy Robredo, the Spaniard who earned 55 points and captured last month's title in Sopot, Poland, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny, Newport finalist Martin Lee and Argentine star David Nalbandian. The ATP Player of the Month and ATP Rising Star of the Month are announced at the end of each month to recognise players' outstanding accomplishments in the ATP Champions Race 2001.
