Commonwealth Shooting championships: Abhinav Bindra bags gold with new championship recordAbhinav Bindra set a new meet record on his way to the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle event at the fourth Commonwealth Shooting championships in Bisley, England on Tuesday.Bindra fired a 594 to move into the final where he scored 102.8 to win the gold with an aggregate of 696.8. The previous record holder Christophe Hector of England came a distant second with 684.9 points. India's Charan Singh won the bronze with a score of 684.6 (584+100.6). Bindra, who had combined with Charan Singh earlier to set a new championship record in the Air Rifle pairs event to strike the first gold for India on Saturday, said "It is good that we have made a fine haul of medals here. Now we have to prepare to bring bigger laurels for India." Another Indian Samir Ambekar too made it to the final with a score of 584 but his 98 was not enough to fetch him a medal, national coach Prof Sunny Thomas said. Mansher Singh won the second gold for India with a perfect 25 in the final after scoring 118 in the five-round trap shooting event. Mansher, who was in the joint fourth spot with 69 points after three rounds on Monday, fired rounds of 24 and 25 on Tuesday for an aggregate of 118. He then capped it with a perfect score in the final to win the gold. Manavjeet Singh, who was in the joint lead on Monday with 71, and Anwar Sultan, 68 after three rounds, could manage only 113 and failed to qualify for the final.
