Jugraj's late goal gives India victory

Jugraj's Singh's goal from a penalty-croner in the last minute gave India a 4-3 victory over South Korea in the five-nation under-21 men's invitational hockey tournament, at the National hockey stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday.

The victory took India to second place in the league. They have seven points, from two victories and a draw, and play Malaysia in thier concluding match on Friday.

India will have to beat Malaysia on Friday to claim the title.

Australia, who drew 1-1 with Malaysia in another match of the day, occupy the top place with eight points from four matches, having won two matches and drawn two.

Malaysia's have five points after three matches.

South Korea have a single point following two defeats and a draw. They play England in the concluding match of the tournament on Friday. England are placed at the bottom of the table without a point.

Tejbir Singh put India ahead in the 11th minute through a field goal, but the Koreans came back strongly and restored parity in the 20th minute through Cha Jong Bok.

Jong Bok, who impressed with quick bursts into the Indian cricle, added another goal for the Koreans four minutes later with a crisp reverse stick shot.

However, the Indians put together some good passing to unsettle the Koreans and draw level three minutes from half-time. This time it was a reverse stick shot from Rajpal Singh, which beat goalkeeper Kim Jae Young hands down.

Five minutes from the end, Korea looked to have wrapped up the match as Oh Dae Hun scored to give them a 3-2 lead, but with three minutes left, Probodh Tirkey put the Indians on level terms again, making it 3-3.

Just before the hooter, India foreced a penalty-corner and Jugraj Singh made made no mistake to the joy of his team mates and the cheering Indian fans.

In the other match, both the goals came in the second-half. Malaysia scored through skipper Chua Boon Huat off a penalty-corner in the 48th minute while Australia levelled the score in the 59th minute through Philip Marshal.
