Prakash Amritraj gets wildcard
for Tata Open qualifiers
For the first time, a chip of the old block could be competing in the Indian leg of the ATP world tour Tata
Indian Open, to be held here from December 31 to January 6.
Prakash Amritraj, son of legendary tennis ace Vijay Amritraj, has been given a wildcard into the qualifying round of the
Tata Open by tournament director Sheila Mariam.
If Prakash comes through to the main draw, he may as well be
hogging a lot of limelight, what with his father being responsible
for bringing the ATP Tour to India and his home town Chennai, five
years ago.
"We are pleased to announce that we have chosen Prakash Amritraj
to be the wild card and he gets a fantastic opportunity to qualify
for the main draw," she said.
Exuded Prakash: "I am very excited about playing in the Tata
Open, my first Indian Open."
"It is very exciting for me to have him play here in
Chennai," Vijay said.
