Manipur win Jr. Nat soccer

T Shyamsunder scored a superb goal in extra-time as holders Manipur retained the title in the Junior National football championship, in Bangalore, on Tuesday, defeating 16-time champions Bengal 1-0 in the final.

Shyamsunder fired home the 'golden' goal off an L Uttamkumar pass in the sixth minute of extra-time to give Manipur the under-19 title for the second year running.

It was doubly disappointing for Bengal, who last won the Championship in 1996, as they had beaten Manipur earlier in the quarter-final league 2-1.
