Srinath romps into semi-finalsIndia's Prahlad Srinath caused a major upset by disposing off second seed Dmitri Tomashevich of Uzbekistan to romp into the semi-finals of the ITF Futures tennis tournament on Calcutta on Thursday. Playing with a great deal of confidence, unseeded Srinath carved out a 6-4, 6-0 victory in about 70 minutes. In the other quarter-final matches, third seed Martin Spotti of Australia defeated fifth seed Rik De Voest of South Africa 6-3, 6-4 while sisxth seed Jaroslav Levinsky of Czech got the better of Luke Milligan of Great Britain 6-3, 6-0 in another one-sided contest. Seventh seed Juraj Hasko of Slovakia got the better of Fred Hemmes 6-2, 6-1 to make it to the last four stage of the US$ 10,000 tournment. Srinath, the lone Indian to survive in the singles, played an aggressive game to unsettle his Uzbek opponent who seemed totally off colour.
