Prahlad Srinath goes down fighting

India's Prahlad Srinath staged a valiant battle, but went down fighting to Croatia's Ivan Cerovic 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 3-6 in the third leg of the ITF men's Futures tennis tournament in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Srinath was in his elements initially, winning the first set easily. However, the Croat raised his game thereafter and moved into the pre-quarters after two hours and 12 minutes.

The only Indian left in the singles event is Vishal Uppal, who came from behind to defeat compatriot Manoj Mahadevan 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 on the second day at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association courts.

In a major upset, fifth seeded Jaroslav Levinsky of the Czech Republic, the winner at the second ITF Futures Tournament at Kolkata, crashed out, losing to the unseeded Russian Dmitri Sitak 6-4, 4-6, 4-6.

But seventh seeded South African Donavan September booked his place in the last 16, beating India's Ajay Chowdapalli 6-0, 1-6, 6-2.

On another disappointing day for Indians, Rohan Bopanna also lost after giving a tough fight to Uzbekistan's Anton Kokurin, who won 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
