Great day for Sunil Kumar

Promising Indian junior Sunil Kumar Sipaeya had a great day at Wimbledon on Tuesday. After the upset win over eighth seed Florian Mayer of Germany in the boys' singles, he scored another superb win in the boys' doubles to move into the second round.

Sunil Kumar, playing with Clinton Letcher of Australia, defeated British wildcards Ross Hutchins and Ben Riby 6-0, 6-3 in their first round match.

The match was a no-contest in the first set, with Sunil and Clinton breaking the British pair in all the games.

In the second set, the Indo-Aussie pair broke the Britons again in the fifth game to take the lead. The Britons did show some resistance by taking on Sunil's serve in the eighth game. Sunil, who was serving well all day, found himself down at 0-40. However, he recovered to take the game to deuce, and after facing another break point, served an ace to go up to 5-3. The Indo-Aussie pair then broke their rivals again to take the match.

Sunil and Clinton dominated the match completely by winning 70 points as against 48 by the opponents. They served six aces as compared to none by the British kids.

They now play the seventh seeds Paul Capdeville of Chile and Oscar Posada of Venuzuella in the round of 16.

In the girls' singles, young Sania Mirza went down to seventh seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina 1-6, 2-6 in the second round.

Sania was no match for the strong Argentinian, who is ranked 314 on the WTA rankings after playing just eight pro events.

The match started with Sania holding serve without much trouble in the first game, but Dulko picked up the steam after some time. She broke the Indian in fourth and sixth games to take the set.

In the second set, Sania started well, holding serve easily and taking a couple of points off Dulko in the second game. In the third game she was serving well at 40-15, but from this point Dulko went on a tear, winning 17 points in a row. Sania was broken in third and fifth games to fall behind at 1-5. Sania did showed some resistance in the seventh game, holding serve after a deuce. But Dulko closed it out in the next game.

Sania will be playing in girls' doubles too with Erika Valdes of Mexico. They will face fourth seeds Chia-Jung Chuang and Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan in the first round match.

Sania is ranked 182 on the ITF junior rankings in the doubles, while Valdes is ranked 379 on the WTA in the doubles and is about to turn 18. She has already played in some pro events, but as an junior her career was very odd with some big results in some two or three higher grade events. She was ranked as high as 47 in singles last year and 50 in doubles on the juniors rankings.

Valdes's experience will help Sania and it looks like they will combine well.

Valdes and Voskoboeva of Russia had reached in the doubles quarter-finals at Wimbledon juniors last year. She and Melissa Torress of Mexico reached the pre-quarter-final of the US Open juniors and the semi-finals at the Casblanca Grade-1 last year.

The Amritraj cousins Prakash and Stephen of the United States, seeded 4th, were upset in the first round of the doubles, losing 5-7, 3-6 to Heinrich Heyl of South Africa and Pavel Ivanov of Russia.

In the Gentlemen's 45 & over doubles, Vijay and Anand Amritraj, seeded fourth, lost 7-6(7-2), 4-6, 9-11 to the Australian pair of Mark Edmondson and Rod Frawley in the first round.
