Chima turns to television serials

Nigerian striker Chima Okerie, whose two-year ban was lifted by the Indian Football Association on Saturday, is keen on completing a 52-episode television programme before deciding on his return to the game as a player.

The ageing star says he is currently busy producing a current affairs and sports programme for ATN World, and has not given much thought to returning to the game which has given him fame.

"At the moment, I am concentrating on this television project. I have written the script and am producing it as well. It is my baby and am quite excited about it. I want to finish this project before thinking about football," Chima said.

The 52-episode programme will he hosted by the footballer himself and is likely to be beamed from the middle of this month.

The talented Okerie, who has often dragged himself into off-field controversies, said he is no longer keen on pursuing a career in football but would reconsider his decision if a really good offer comes his way.

"At the moment I am not keen to play football, whether in India or abroad. I will think about it when I complete the TV project. I have a contract for the TV company and I want to do the job to the best of my ability," he said.

Okerie informed that he hasn't received any offers to play since the IFA's governing body lifted the two-year ban on him on Saturday.

"No club has approached me yet nor have I approached any club. I will decide about it when the time comes," Okerie said.

The Nigerian striker said he is also looking forward to implementing his sports academy project in the city but said generating resources have been difficult.

"Setting up a sports academy has been one of my priorities. I have to get the funds to do it. I have been talking to some people in this regard," he said, sounding optimistic.
