Malaysia win third hockey TestMalaysia rallied splendidly to get the better of India 2-1 in the third match of the four-Test junior hockey series between the two countries, at the Begumpet police grounds, in Hyderabad, on Thursday. The victory enabled the visitors draw level in the series. India won the first match while the second was drawn. The concluding match of the series will be played on Friday. Both teams began on a cautious note and play was confined to the midfield for a major part of the first half, during which the Malaysians looked a shade better. They made some good openings but were unable to create any impression on the Indian goal. The Indians too had a couple of chances but poor finishing was their undoing. However, two minutes from half-time, Arjun Halappa put India ahead, converting a penalty-stroke, which was awarded after Malaysia skipper, Olympian Boon Huat's made a dangerous tackle on Somesh Kantha. But the lead was shortlived as Zahrin drew level for Malaysia, scoring from a quick passing bout. In the second session, India tried to slow down the pace as Malaysia's forwards attacked vigourously. Their efforts bore fruit in the 44th minute when Azlan beat India 'keeper Mallan Gowda with a good shot. In the remaining time, the Malaysians packed the defence and held on for a well-deserved victory.
