Anil Kumar, Saraswati Dey fastest

Kerala had a haul of four gold medals on the second day of the 41st Inter-state athletics championships in Lucknow on Thursday.

Their men's and women's team won the 4x100 metres relay events while the other two gold medals came from the men's 400 metres hurdles and men's 100 metres sprint.

Shevin Joseph clocked 53.09 seconds in the men's 400 metres hurdles to win the gold for Kerala. The silver went to Bihar's Parthosarathy, who finished in 53.49 seconds.

Anil Kumar emerged the fastest man of the meet, winning the men's 100 metres sprint in 10.50 seconds to give Kerala another gold. The silver went to West Bengal's Anil Saha, who finished in 10.83 seconds.

The corresponding event for women was won by West Bengal's Saraswati Dey. She clocked 11.71 seconds while second placed Kavita Pandya of Maharashtra was timed 11.83 seconds.

The Kerala women's 4 x100 metres relay team clocked 47.71 seconds to win the gold while men's team finished first in 41.42 seconds.

The silver medals in the events were bagged by West Bengal and Delhi respectively.

Punjab bagged two gold medals when its athletes finished first in men's 20km walk and women's 400 metres hurdles.

Punjab's Gurdev Singh clocked 1 hr 32 min 36 seconds to bag gold in 20km walk while Spinder Singh bagged the second gold in the women's 400m hurdles with a timing of 59.10 seconds.

The silver in the 20km walk was bagged by Rajasthan's Sitaram (1:33.34 seconds) while Orissa's Shabani Oraon (59.26 seconds) claimed the silver in the 400 metres hurdles.

Tamil Nadu's K Shankar finished on top in the men's 5,000 metres with a timing of 14:29.22 seconds while Manipur's N Goja Singh was second, clocking 14:33.38 seconds.

In the women's 5,000 metres, H Sagni Devi bagged the gold in 17:34.04 seconds while the silver went to Himachal Pradesh's Vanita, who finished in 17:34.04 seconds.

West Bengal's Manisha Dey covered 13.12 metres in women's triple jump to claim the first place, while the silver went to her statemate Kalpana Das (12.80m).

The 2.05m effort of Rajasthan's Om Veer Singh helped him claim gold in the men's high jump. Roshan Lal, who also cleared the same height, finished second as it was achieved in his fourth attempt.
