Isha Lakhani wins ITF title

Unseeded players ruled the roost as Isha Lakhani of India won her maiden girls' title and Switzerland's Dominic Stoecwer grabbed the honours in the boys' section in the ITF Junior tennis circuit (grade 4) in Bombay on Saturday.

Giant-killer Lakhani shocked third seed Rebecca Dandeniya of Great Britain 7-5, 6-1 while Stoecwer accounted for local hope and fourth seed Karan Rastogi 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.

Lakhani was a picture of confidence as she dominated the game, seldom allowing the British girl to settle down. She played the serve and volley game to perfection and hit her double-fisted backhand shots with amazing speed and accuracy to oust the British girl in a little over an hour.

In the first set, the Indian got the all-important break in the 11th game and then held serve to take the set at 7-5.

In the second set, the Indian proved too good and let her rival win just one game, that too on her own serve, before coasting home at 6-1.

In the boys' final, Stoecwer, who had accounted for top seed Amanjot Singh in the first round, crushed Rastogi in a one-sided match.

The winners in both the sections pocketed 40 valuable ITF points while the losers had to be content with 30.
