India win SAARC golf for fourth time
India defeated Bangladesh 3-0 to lift the fourth SAARC golf championship at the
Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon, Haryana, on Saturday.
It was India's fourth championship victory in as many tournaments.
The Indian golfers adjusted themseves well in the final of the
ametuer championship which was played in three 18-hole singles
matches, with scoring under matchplay format. Matches in the
preliminary rounds were played under stroke-play format.
Jasjeet Singh gave India a flying start with a victory
over Mohammad Hussain Mia. Singh's win was comprehensive as it
came on the 12th hole.
Manav Das, continuing his fine form, registered a two-
hole vicotry over Mohammad Milon Ahmed
to give India a 2-0 lead. Manav, however, had to struggle a
little before wrapping up the game on the 17th hole.
Top Indian ametuer Keshav Mishra, who seemed to have lost
focus for some time, managed to win a closely-fought match
against Mohammad Siddikur Rahman.
Mishra started the game poorly, losing the very first hole.
However, he recovered in time and with the help of couple of
birdies to win on the 17th hole.
"It was a good tournament for me so far. But I played
miserably today and the putting was even worse," Mishra said
after the match. "Somehow I carried on to win the match," he
added.
