April 28, 2003 20:27 IST
Former champions JCT, Phagwara, came from behind to score a 3-1 win over Indian Bank and take the fourth spot in the 7th Oil PSU National Football League, which concluded at five different venues in the country on Monday.
Like in their earlier six matches, Indian Bank were found wanting as they wilted under pressure in the last ten minutes of the game.
Substitute Chanrajit Kumar, the man of the match, scored twice to give JCT victory.
Kasun Jayasuriya put Indian Bank ahead but I M Vijayan restored parity in the next minute.
Making good use of defence lapses, Charanjit came up with two opportunitistic goals in the 80th and 81st minutes.
JCT, who went into the match with 35 points, finished behind East Bengal, Salgaocar and Vasco in that order and collected Rs 900,000.
Indian Bank finished tenth and retained their place in the NFL for the next season, ahead of ITI and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (both from Bangalore), who were relegated to Second Division of the league.
