Vakharia upsets Chakravarthi

Top seed Rushmi Chakravarthi of India crashed out of the ITF women's tennis tournament, suffering a 4-6, 3-6 defeat against compatriot Megha Vakharia in the pre-quarter-finals, in Bangalore on Wednesday.
The unseeded Vakharia used her powerful serve and volley game to good effect to quell the challenge of the top seed.
The other Indian to storm into the last eight are third seed Sai Jayalakshmi, who defeated compatriot Arthi Venkataraman 6-2,6-1.
Fourth seed Da-Jung Hong carved out a 6-2, 6-2 win over India's Archana Venkataraman while fifth seed Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan managed to outplay Austria's Eva Hoch 7-5, 6-2 to also move into the quarter-finals.
Eight seed Wilawan Choptang of Thailand came from behind to beat Honk Kong's Po-Kuen Lam 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Others who sailed into the quarter-finals are Elena Vesnina (Russia), Montinee Tangphong (Thailand) and Julia Vorobieva (Russia).
Elena overcame Isha Lakhani (India) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 while Montinee defeated Diana Julianto (Indonesia) 6-1, 6-3.
Julia edged past Geeta Manohar (India) 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles, Iciri Rai and Preeti Rao (India) outclassed Olga Panova and Elena Volobueva (Russia) 6-4, 6-2, while Makiarai and Natalia Dziamidzenka from Bylorussia trounced Nandini Perumal and Yamini Thukkaiandi (India) 6-0, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals.
