Earnhardt discharged from hospital

NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. has left a California hospital after treatment for second-degree burns suffered when his car burst into flames during a practice run for a race.
Earnhardt left the University of California, Davis Medical Centre late on Monday morning after being treated for burns on the insides of both legs and on his chin, the hospital said in a statement.

Earnhardt, whose father was killed in a race car in 2001, suffered burns to about 6 percent of his body on Sunday when his car spun out of control and caught fire during a practice run for the American Le Mans Series race at Infineon Raceway near Sonoma, California.The accident happened during morning practice when Earnhardt's Chevrolet Corvette spun out and hit a concrete barrier.
The car burst into flames, but Earnhardt quickly climbed out on his own. The car was destroyed and his team withdrew from Sunday's race.
The popular Dale Earnhardt Sr. -- a seven-times NASCAR series champion -- was killed in 2001 on the last turn of the final lap of the Daytona 500 in Florida.
