A doctor of the Sports Authority of India is being investigated for charges of sexual misconduct while carrying out medical tests on a set of young female hockey players.

The allegation of molestation has prompted the SAI to order that medical tests of women sports persons from now on be carried out by lady doctors.

According to a senior official of the SAI's eastern chapter, the sporting body had received a complaint from a group of girls who attended a hockey camp at Government's Girls' High School, Ranchi, between March 17 and 19.

The girls had to undergo medical tests that were to be carried out by two male doctors of SAI.

The girls alleged that one of the two doctors designated as junior scientific officer made indecent proposals and advances towards them in the name of carrying out medical tests.

In view of their discomfiture, they had refused to undergo tests under the male doctors and demanded a lady physician examine them. Their demand was not met and the camp was called off.

The girls then lodged a complaint with the school principal, who in turn wrote to the SAI about the players' "harassment".

Sports Authority of India authorities sought an explanation from the accused doctor and the latter's reply has been sent to the boy's headquarters in New Delhi.

No action has yet been taken against the doctor, who was not named "because the guilt hasn't been proved yet", the official said.
