South Korea won the men's hockey gold medal at the Asian Games, beating giant-killers China 3-1 in the final at the Al-Rayyan Hockey Field in Doha on Thursday.

The defending champions rallied from a goal in arrears to emerge victorious.

Na Yubo put the Chinese ahead from a penalty-corner in the ninth minute, but the Koreans replied within three minutes when Hoon Sung Yoon scored from a quick counter attack.

Another field goal in the 16th minute by Kon Woon Yeo put South Korea ahead and they held possession thereafter to call the shots.

The Chinese tried hard to get back into the match on resumption in the second session, but Yeo struck again in the 66th minute from a penalty-stroke to put the gold medal out their reach.

Earlier, in the bronze-medal play-off Pakistan beat Japan [Images] 4-2.

Waqas Muhammad (41st, 53rd minute) scored a brace of goals while Adnan Maqsood (11th minute) and Shakeel Abassi (32nd minute) netted one each to script Pakistan's victory.

Yamabori Takahiko (9th, 57th minute) scored for Japan.

Pakistan, who conceded an early lead, fought back to gain a 2-1 advantage at half-time before Muhammad's double strike in the second period sealed Japan's fate.

India took fifth place in the tournament after beating Malaysia 4-0, while Bangladesh defeated Chinese Taipei 5-1 to finish in seventh place.
