Who's urned it?

Alec StewartEngland wicket keeper Alec Stewart has joined the English brigade that is of the opinion that the Aussies should be allowed to take the original Ashes urn with them to Australia, since they have won seven series in a row. Leading Australian players Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath and Adam Gilchrist are among those insisting that the urn should be handed over to Australia. The ECB has only provided Australia with replicas of the oldest Trophy in Test cricket history, never letting the original out. The ECB officials are stubborn in their stand that the original will not be allowed out of the Lord's museum.

A report released by The Australian Cricket Board (ACB)'s special investigator Greg Melick says that the younger Waugh has been cleared on the grounds that no credible evidence was located. Mark Waugh who is currently in England playing the Test series against England was informed of the result of the inquiry.

Bewildered Borde!

Alarm bells in Pakistan?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly expressed difficulty in organising the 2001-2002 domestic season as it is facing a financial crunch. Locals are surprised to find the PCB inviting sponsors for the upcoming domestic season when it has just spent nearly a million dollars on hiring foreign professionals for various aspects of the game. Geoff Boycott and Richard Pybus, were all hired and paid well. The fact that none of the names short listed by Pakistan to coach the national team have responded has done more damage than good to the PCB's image. Pakistan's search for a foreign coach has now become some sort of a joke in cricket circles of late. What is alarming is the fact that the PCB say they are unable to shell out Rs 10-15 lakhs (about US$ 30, 000) to run their domestic tournament when they have paid so much to all their so called consultants, including groundsman Andy Atkinson and trainer Dale Naylor, apart from Boycott and Pybus.

Meanwhile, Keith Medleycott, one of the names short-listed by the Pakistan Cricket Board to coach the national team has reportedly demanded an astronomical fee. The former Surrey left-armer and the current Surrey coach has reportedly asked for half million pounds to take up the long term coaching assignment. Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja, one of the PCB's senior members is reportedly in England doing the negotiations on behalf of the Pakistan Board. David Lloyd, another former England player and now commentator is also said to had demanded a hefty fee. Former Pakistan fast bowler Sikander Bakht has been temporarily asked to handle the training camp currently going on for the national team at Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have said that it would not make Pakistan vice-captain Inzamam ul Haq available to the ICC's Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) for questioning. PCB officials said there was no question of Inzamam being queried when Pakistan have such a packed international schedule.
