England's hopes of picking their strongest side for the first Test against India in Mohali have been rocked by the news that spinner Ashley Giles is unlikely to be fit.
Giles has been struggling with an achilles injury all year and had to leave the field against India 'A' earlier this week for further treatment.

Uncapped batsman Jacob Martin has replaced the banned Virender Sehwag in India's squad for the first Test against England in Mohali, starting on Monday.
Martin captained the Board President's XI against England in a warm-up match, scoring an accomplished 89 against the tourists.

New Zealand in Australia

New Zealand totally dominated the second day of the series-deciding third Test, hitting their second highest score ever against Australia and then taking two wickets before stumps.
It was the first time four New Zealand batsmen had scored centuries in a Test innings, the ninth instance in Test cricket and the first in 63 years against Australia.

West Indies in Sri Lanka

Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Hashan Tillakaratne hit his ninth career century as Sri Lanka build a commanding first innings lead over West Indies on day three in Colombo.
After sharing a fifth wicket stand of 141 with Russel Arnold, he and Thilan Samaraweera batted through the evening session, adding an unbeaten 132 for the sixth.

Tillakaratne was unbeaten on 143, having passed his career best 136, set against India as recently as last August.

South Africa in Australia

South African spin bowler Nicky Boje has been ruled out of the forthcoming Test series in Australia because of continuing knee problems. Boje has been suffering from patella tendinitis and underwent a scan on Wednesday.

The injury flared up again when Boje fell while fielding in the second Test against India at Port Elizabeth earlier this month.

Miscellaneous

Darren Gough could be forced to play for Yorkshire next season whether he wants to or not, according to a report. Gough's future at the county club has been in question since the England pace bowler, who has a year left to run on his current contract, said he was unwilling to sign an extension.

But Yorkshire chief executive Chris Hassell told the News of the World that the side are ready to make Gough see out his contract if necessary.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has denied accusations that the team were involved in match-fixing during the 1999 World Cup in England. "I am shocked at why such allegations are levelled against Pakistan," Akram told Justice Karamat Bhandari's inquiry at the Lahore High Court Saturday.
