England in India

England gained the upper hand in the third and final Test against India after reducing the home side to 99-3 at stumps. And England's Andrew Flintoff took a Test-best wicket haul of 3-30.

Sachin Tendulkar still there, having recorded yet another half-century, off 103 balls, with some master strokes. Foster fell two runs short of his maiden Test half-century and Ashley Giles was out lbw for 28.

Anil Kumble's only regret on passing 300 career Test wickets was that his mother was unable to watch him achieve the landmark. Looking nervous, he bowled 22 unsuccessful overs on the opening day of the match, with his mother in attendance.

The 66-Test veteran trapped last man Matthew Hoggard lbw with a typically fast delivery, which straightened on pitching as the entire stadium erupted in joy. "It is a great feeling to achieve it on your home ground," he said.

Match referee Denis Lindsay asked both India and England to calm down after an on-field row between batsman Sachin Tendulkar and touring captain Nasser Hussain. "The match referee went into the dressing room and spoke to both coaches and asked them to calm it down," England spokesman David Clarke said after the second day in Bangalore.

Tendulkar was frustrated by the leg-side line that England bowlers Andrew Flintoff and Ashley Giles had adopted in an attempt to stop him scoring. He exchanged words with Hussain, who responded angrily.

South Africa in Australia

Pace bowler Andy Bichel has been recalled to the Australia squad for next Wednesday's second Test against South Africa in place of leg-spinner Stuart MacGill. Bichel was omitted for the last Test, in Adelaide, when Australia toyed with the idea of playing two leg-spinners before making MacGill 12th man.

West Indies in Sri Lanka

West Indies batsman Brian Lara has a hairline fracture of his elbow and will be sidelined for at least six weeks. The left-hander had dislocated his left elbow in a collision during a match against Sri Lanka, but team manager Ricky Skerritt told BBC Sport Online's Colin Croft the injury was worse than first thought.

"What this means is that Brian Lara is effectively ruled out of the next scheduled West Indies tour of Pakistan, if and when, that takes place." Skerritt said.

Teenage batsman Hamilton Masakadza and leg-spinner Brian Murphy have been added to Zimbabwe's squad for the forthcoming Test series Sri Lanka. The first Test starts on 27 December at Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club.

Bangladesh in New Zealand

Bangladesh's brittle batting was exposed once more as the tourists were bowled out for 205 by New Zealand. New Zealand resumed its first innings at 306 for five, scoring and lost wickets quickly before making a forced declaration in the 78th over.
