Sarandeep to stay on in West Indies
Replacement off-spinner Sarandeep Singh will stay on with the touring Indian squad in the West Indies until the end of the Test series, an Indian cricket official said on Tuesday.
Singh was flown in as cover following a shoulder injury to fellow off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and played in the first Test which ended in a draw last week in Guyana.
"Sarandeep will be with the squad till the Test series ends," said Niranjan Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A fit-again Harbhajan Singh replaced Sarandeep for the second Test, which India won by 37 runs, but the stand-in was being asked to stay as he could be a contender for the five-match one-day series which follows the Tests.
The squad for the one-dayers, starting on May 25, will be chosen after the third Test in Barbados from May 2-6.
Shah said attacking batsman Virender Sehwag, who missed the Test series because of a shoulder injury, has yet to declare his fitness for the one-dayers.
