India beat England eves, win series
India notched up a massive 113-run victory over England to establish a winning 3-0 lead in the
five-match Hero Honda women's one-day cricket series in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Recovering after an early batting collapse, the Indian eves fought back through Mithali Raj (39), who was later declared woman-of-the-match, Mamta Maben (55 not out) and Arundathi Kirkire (35) to score 191 for five in 50 overs.
England were never in their chase with only opener Coroline Atkins (20), Arran Thompson (21) and skipper Clare Connor (15) reaching double figures. Mithali showcased her all-round skills too. She claimed three wickets for four runs to help bowl out the visitors for a paltry 78 runs.
India had won the first match at Chennai and the second one in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Mithali was certainly the pick of the players and thoroughly deserved the Woman-of-the-match award. Having come to the crease when the score was 31 for the loss of two wickets, she put on 23 runs with skipper Anjum Chopra (10) for the third wicket.
Mithali was later joined by Mamta and the duo added 62 runs for the fourth wicket before Mithali was caught by Atkins off Connor but only after the Indian had stabilised the innings with her well-compiled 39 runs studded with four fours off the 73 balls she faced.
The Indians made most of the final overs with Mamta and Arundathi, who was out to the last ball, putting up a dazzling 75-run partnership for fifth wicket to take the Indian score to 191 for five.
