Hinds replaces Williams
for fourth Test

Left-handed Jamaican batsman Wavell Hinds will replace opener Stuart Williams in the 13-member West Indian squad for the fourth cricket Test against India starting at St John's, Antigua, on Friday.

Hinds, 25, who has played 20 Tests so far, mostly as the No 3 batsman for the Windies, impressed the selectors by scoring 175 against the Indians in the warm-up match at St Lucia, Grenada, two weeks ago. He has opened the batting for the Windies in five Tests.

Williams, 32, who himself was recalled after an absence of three years for this series, has failed to do much in the first three Tests, with scores of 13, 43, 13, 18 and 4 not out, in keeping with his disappointing overall average of 24.14 in 31 Tests. Hinds has scored 1,062 runs at an average of 29.50.

The squad: Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brian Lara, Carl Hooper (captain), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ridley Jacobs, Mervyn Dillon, Adam Sanford, Cameron Cuffy, Pedro Collins, Ryan Hinds, Dinanath Ramnarine.
