Jaffer disappointed on missing century
Indian opener Wasim Jaffer was disappointed at missing out on his maiden Test hundred on the opening day of the fourth Test against West Indies on Friday.
The Mumbai right-hander was caught by Ridley Jacobs off Pedro Collins for 86.
Jaffer, playing in his fourth Test, dispatched West Indies's four-pronged pace attack to all corners of the Antigua Recreation Ground and helped India reach 168/2 after losing the first wicket on 13.
India were 226/3 at close of play.
"I thought I was looking good for a hundred," Jaffer said, adding, "I was determined to get it but I got out nicking a good ball. I'm very disappointed."
"I am playing well right now," said Jaffer, who scored 51 -- his maiden Test half-century -- in the third Test in Barbados.
"The wicket was easy. I had been there for two sessions so I just wanted to carry on, but these things happen."
The 24-year-old looked particularly good against short-pitched bowling and said it was the result of having played with rubber balls as a youngster.
Jaffer made his debut in the home series against South Africa in 2000, but was dropped after a lacklustre display. He was recalled for the West Indies tour following a series of good performances in domestic cricket.
He dedicated Friday's innings to his elder brother Kalim, who he said had a big impact on his career.
"He [Kalim] is my coach, my guide. He has always looked after me from my younger days. I think he should get all the credit for the way I'm batting."
