Kumble's wife not surprised by husband's heroics
The wife of leg-spinner Anil Kumble says she is proud of her husband's heroic performance in the fourth Test against the West Indies after he chose to play despite a fractured jaw.
"I wasn't surprised at all," Chetana said on Monday.
"In fact, I would have been surprised had he not played. His dedication and commitment to the game and country is like that. I am proud of him."
Kumble captured the key wicket of Brian Lara to give India the upper hand. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar described his commitment as one of the most inspiring tales in cricket.
Kumble had been ruled out for the rest of the Caribbean tour and advised to have surgery after being hit by a delivery from paceman Mervyn Dillon on Saturday.
But after watching Sachin Tendulkar extract some turn with his occasional spin, he insisted he be allowed to play and bowled a 14-over spell which cost only 29 runs on the third day.
