Chanderpaul way ahead in the averages
West Indies captain Carl Hooper and middle order batsman Shivnaraine Chanderpaul emerged as the most proficient batsmen at the end of the just-concluded five-Test series between the West Indies and India, which the former won 2-1.
Chanderpaul's astounding average of 140.50, and aggregate of 562 runs, reflects the strength of the West
Indian middle order, which was mainly responsible for the series triumph.
Hooper too, who aggregated 579 runs, including his maiden double hundred -- 233 at Guyana, at an average of 82.71, provided solidity to the middle order and frustrated the Indians on many occasions.
For the Indians, only V V S Laxman stood out, aggregating 474 runs from eight innings at an average of 79.00,
his best performance to date after his historic outing against Australia last year.
