India spinner Harbhajan Singh will play no further part in the tour of Australia after electing to have surgery on his injured finger, team manager Shivlal Yadav said on Friday.
Yadav told reporters at Adelaide Oval that Harbhajan plans to visit a specialist in Melbourne next week to have corrective surgery on a nagging finger injury that has plagued him all year.
"He is out of the rest of the tour," Yadav said.
Harbhajan was replaced by Anil Kumble for the second Test, which started on Friday, after a disappointing performance in last week's drawn first Test in Brisbane.
Left-arm spinner Murali Kartik arrived in Australia on Thursday as a back-up to Harbhajan and, although he was overlooked for the second Test, he could play in the remaining matches.
The third Test is scheduled to start in Melbourne on December 26 followed by the final match in Sydney from January 2. A month-long triangular one-day series between Australia, India and Zimbabwe starts after the last Test.
Harbhajan destroyed Australia's batting lineup in their last series in India two years ago, capturing 32 wickets, but took match figures of one for 169 in Brisbane last week.
