India climb up to fifth spot in ICC Test ratings

July 23, 2003 11:41 IST

India have gained one position to reach the fifth place in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Tuesday.

India gained three points to move from sixth to fifth, replacing Sri Lanka who slipped one place in the only positional change in the table in the latest update, an ICC press release said.

Australia continue to lead the table with 129 points, and are followed by South Africa, New Zealand and England.

Pakistan and West Indies occupy the seventh and eighth places respectively.

India's progress in the Test rankings comes close on the heels of a three-place drop in one-day ratings which saw the team tumble to the eighth position despite a string of successes in the last one year.

India's climb to the fifth place in the Test ratings is largely due to the dropping of heavy series defeats to Australia and South Africa from the calculation period.

Ratings:
1. Australia        129 pts
2. South Africa  119
3. New Zealand  107
4. England          101
5. India               94
6. Sri Lanka        91
7. Pakistan          90
8. West Indies     83
9. Zimbabwe       58
10. Bangladesh     2
