Assam put up huge score against Hyderabad
November 25, 2003 01:11 IST
Centuries by R Satish and Sukhbinder Singh drove hosts Assam to an impregnable position at the end of Day 2 in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match against Hyderabad at the Maligaon Railway Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.
Assam reached a strong 537 for nine as Satish and Sukhbinder piled on the misery for the Hyderabad bowlers on a batsman-friendly Maligaon pitch.
Only Shivaji Yadav stole some credit for the visitors as he managed to grab five wickets conceding 140 runs. Otherwise it was Assam all the way with Satish remaining not out with a masterly 133 (21x4) in 231 balls.
Sukhbinder was not far behind. He scored a well-compiled 112 with the help of 12 fours and three towering sixes off 172 balls.
V Saravanand (89), opener Parag Das (71) and Zakaria Zuffri (53) also scored half-centuries for the hosts. While Sarvanand fell to N P Singh, the other two batsmen were Yadav's victims.
For the Hyderabad bowlers, former international Venkatapathi Raju had another disappointing day as he managed to get only two wickets at the cost of 87 runs.
