The Buddha of Cricket

The tour of England in 2002 brought him into the limelight. Asked to open the innings, Bangar served the team with distinction.

His innings of 68 in the third Test at Headingley laid the foundation for a famous Indian win. The unflappable all-rounder negiotated a tough opening day, putting on 170 runs with the solid Rahul Dravid and setting the stage for a murderous assault on the tiring English bowlers by skipper Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar on the second evening.
