December 03, 2005 19:03 IST
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association can still host the third Test between India and Sri Lanka [Images] later this month in Kanpur if they can get possession of the ground from the state Government within a day.
The BCCI's Tours, Programmes and Fixtures Committee, which met in Mumbai on Saturday, decided to give UPCA some more time after it received a letter from Rajiv Shukla that the Association was trying to get the ground released from the government at the earliest.
Ahmedabad has been kept as a stand-by venue in case Kanpur is unable to host the match to be held from December 18 to 22, Chairman of the Committee Shashank Manohar told reporters in Mumbai.
Manohar said the BCCI's Working Committee would take a final decision on whether Kanpur will host the match depending on the situation.

As per the schedule, Ahmedabad was one of the venues for the Test series against England.
