A five-member inspection team from India arrived in Pakistan on Sunday to finalise security arrangements for their cricket tour, which starts next month.

"This is a security inspection team and we are here to visit all the proposed match venues to review arrangements," Yashvardhan Azad, a senior police officer with the Indian government told Reuters.

"We have been sent here to also talk about the itinerary given by the Pakistan board. We will be meeting with senior police officials of Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore [Images] today," he said.

The Indian team is due to arrive in Pakistan on Jan 5. They are scheduled to play three Tests in Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi and then one-day matches in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Karachi.

Although the Indian government has approved the tour in principle, Azad said the inspection team would visit venues and meet with Pakistan government officials in order to satisfy themselves with the security and other arrangements.

Azad led an Indian security delegation to Pakistan last year before a tour and the Indian cricket board refused to play a Test in the southern port city of Karachi on the feedback from his team.

The inspection panel will visit Karachi on Monday where India are due to play the third Test and a one-day match.

They travel to Peshawar on Tuesday before proceeding to Islamabad and returning to Lahore for final discussions with Pakistan interior ministry officials.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said security arrangements for the Indian team had already been finalised with the cooperation of the government.
