Statistics: Team India too good

India won the seven-match ODI series against Sri Lanka [Images] in an emphatic fashion winning four matches on a trot and ending with a scoreline of 6-1. A summary of the two teams' performances in the seven matches:

India have now equalled South Africa's [Images] world record of the biggest victory margin in a bilateral series. South Africa, in fact, have done so not just once but twice. The following table gives details of biggest margins of wins in a seven-match bilateral series where all matches produced results.

Indian wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] hit 17 sixes in the series (all of the Sri Lankan batsmen could hit only 11!). With this he established a new world record of most sixes in an ODI series/tournament. The previous record was jointly held by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya [Images], India's Sourav Ganguly [Images] & Pakistan's Shahid Afridi [Images].

Both Dravid and Dhoni ended the series with an average of 100-plus. This provided only the third and fourth instances of Indian batsmen ending a series or tournament with an average of 100-plus while scoring atleast 300 runs. Dravid's average is now the second best by an Indian. The details:

Dhoni ended the series with 346 runs against his name. His tally is the highest by an Indian wicket-keeper in any series (or tournament). Interestingly the previous record was held by none other than current captain Rahul Dravid [Images], who aggregated 318 runs as a make-shift keeper in 2002-03 World Cup.

...and this is how all players from either side performed with bat and ball in the series:
