• VRV Singh was making his ODI debut. He became 164th player to represent India in a one-day international.

• Andrew Strauss [Images] was making his captaincy debut for England [Images]. He became 26^th player to captain England in a one-day international.

• Virender Sehwag [Images] was captaining India for only third time in his career. His two previous assignments as captain were against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 16-04-2003 and against Sri Lanka [Images] at Rajkot on 09-11-2005. In both these games India batted second and emerged victorious.

• MS Dhoni's [Images] 96 is the highest individual innings by any Indian wicket-keeper against England. This obliterated Rahul Dravid's [Images] 82 at Chester-le-Street on 04-07-2002.

• The 107 run-partnership between Dhoni and Powar was India's second century partnership for the sixth wicket in this series. Dhoni and Raina had added 118 in the second match at Faridabad on 31-03-2006.

• This was the fourth occasion Dhoni was participating in a century partnership for the sixth wicket. With this Dhoni equalled New Zealand's [Images] Chris Harris' ODI record of participating in most century partnerships for the sixth wicket. Five other players have appeared in three century stands for the sixth wicket.

• Strauss' innings of 74* off 85 balls is the second highest by an England player on captaincy debut after Mike Atherton, who scored 86 (off 147 balls) against West Indies [Images] at Bridgetown on 16-02-1994.

• Strauss' innings is the fourth highest for any player in his debut innings as captain against India. Only Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq [Images] (122 at Karachi on 13-03-2004), New Zealand's Glenn Turner (114* at Old Trafford on 14-06-1975) and Australia's [Images] Adam Gilchrist [Images] (75 at Perth on 01-02-2004) have made more runs in their debut innings as captain against India.

• Harbhajan Singh [Images] completed his 150 wickets in one-day internationals when he had Mat Prior caught by VRV Singh. He was playing his 122^nd match. Harbhajan became seventh Indian and 41^st bowler in the world to reach this landmark.

• Harbhajan's three wickets in the match took his wicket-aggregate against England to 27 -- most by any spinner against England. He moved ahead of fellow countryman Anil Kumble [Images], who has 25 wickets from 28 games. Harbhajan needed only 16 matches to surpass Kumble's tally.

• The 107-run partnership between Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell [Images] is England's best for the opening wicket on Indian soil, bettering the 101-run partnership between Robin Smith and Alec Stewart at Gwalior on 04-03-1993.

• The defeat brought an end to India's streak of 8 consecutive wins.

• Jamshedpur continues to be a jinx for India. Of the nine matches India have played on this ground, they have won only one and lost as many as seven -- a 'lost' frequency of 77.77! Among all major countries (excluding Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Kenya), India's performance at Jamshedpur is the worst ever by a country at any home ground. The details:
