India's record of successful chases is getting better and better. The five-wicket victory over Pakistan at Lahore [Images] was India's 11th consecutive while chasing a target.
Where does this performance stand in ODIs?
An indepth study of all the one-day internationals played till date reveals the fact that the 11 consecutive successful chases is not only just India's best run in ODIs, but also the fourth-best performance by any side in ODI history.
Two more successful chases and India will equal South Africa's world record in this regard. India's previous best run was of six consecutive successful chases between the 1984-85 and 1985-86 season.
There was another sequence of six chases between 1985-86 and 1986-97, but that sequence was interrupted by a 'no-result' match.
The following table lists the best sequences of successful chases in one-day internationals:
Matches | Country | From | To |
13 | South Africa | vs Eng (Port Elizabeth, 2004-05) | vs Aus (Brisbane, 2005-06) |

Notes:
- South Africa did not suffered a single loss in 15 consecutive games. After beating Bangladesh at Birmingham in 2004 by 9 wickets, they had a tied match with England at Bloemfontein, which followed their run of 13 consecutive wins.
- England (2003 to 2003-04) had in fact not faced a defeat in 14 consecutive matches while batting second. After winning 10 matches at a trot, they had a 'no-result' match, which followed another three consecutive successful chases
- The West Indies' sequence of 8 matches was in their first eight matches in which they batted second.
- Between 1983-84 and 1986-87, the West Indies had lost only one game along with a no-result game batting second in 28 consecutive matches.
