Tendulkar slips to his lowest Test ranking
March 24, 2006 18:19 IST
Sachin Tendulkar [Images] has dropped to his lowest Test ranking in 13 years while England [Images] all-rounder Andrew Flintoff [Images] is closing in on the number one spot in the all-rounder's table following India's Mumbai Test drubbing this week.
The latest LG ICC [Images] Player Rankings for Test cricket saw Tendulkar drop four places to 16th following his lackluster show in the drawn three-Test series against England.
Tendulkar's slide reflects the fact the England series was the third in succession where he failed to average 40 runs per innings.
Two Indian batsman were ahead of him in the rankings -- captain Rahul Dravid [Images] (5th) and Virender Sehwag [Images] (10th).
The defeat in Mumbai, however, made it a forgettable 100th Test for Dravid as he dropped one place in the list.
Flintoff, named man of the series, moved up in the batting and bowling lists to be sixth in the rankings for bowlers, up one place after taking four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
He is now just three rating points behind England's leading bowler in the list, Matthew Hoggard [Images].
With the bat, Flintoff's twin half-centuries in Mumbai helped him rise two places to 24th and he is now just 13 points behind South Africa's Jacques Kallis [Images] in the all-rounder's list.
Among bowlers, five wickets for Harbhajan Singh [Images] have pushed him up three places in the rankings and he returns to the top 20 in 20th place. That means India have three players now in top 20 with Anil Kumble [Images] (12th) and Irfan Pathan [Images] (13th) -- both non-movers in the list -- being the other two.
