'Working with Kamal was a dream come true'
Everybody raved about her stunningly glamorous look in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Ghulam. In stark contrast, Rani Mukherjee now plays a simple Bengali girl in Kamal Haasan’s Hey! Ram with very little make-up.
Glad to be a part of this dream project, Rani shares her feelings about the soon-to-be-released movie. What is your role in Hey! Ram? I play a simple Bengali school teacher who is completely devoted to her husband Saket Ram (played by Kamal Haasan), her home and her work. What kind of preparations did you make for this role? Well, I didn't have to do anything much but yes, I did learn Tamil because Kamal Haasan did not want anyone else to dub for me. But that really wasn't too difficult since I am a Bengali girl in the film. So there was no need for me to speak Tamil with a perfect accent. You have a very simple look in Hey! Ram... Well, yes. I wear simple, starched Bengali cotton saris, a big bindi and I am actually not wearing any make-up. Sarikaji (Haasan) arranged for my wardrobe in the film. I look like how a Bengali woman in those times would look. How was your experience of working with Kamal Haasan? There's only one thing I would like to say -- that working with him was a dream come true for me. So what are your expectations from your forthcoming film, Baadal? I always hope that my films should do well and it's the same with Baadal. I wish success for all my films. Rani Mukherjee spoke to Kanchana Suggu
