Keep believing in us: Pillay

August 22, 2003 23:55 IST

India hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay appealed the fans to repose faith in the team, saying it "can do anything".

"India has played such a game after many years, that too against Pakistan. I believe this team can do anything," Pillay said, after India scored a memorable 7-4 victory over its arch rivals in the Champions Trophy in Amsterdam, Holland, on Friday.

Pillay said the victory over Pakistan after a lacklustre performance in the six-nation tournament provides enough reason for fans to keep believing in his players.

"Indian fans should believe in us, that we can do well in coming tournaments. They should give us time.

"We have shown today that we can beat any team," he said.

He said today's victory, which came after some thrilling hockey from both the teams, was not because of any individual effort.

"Pakistan played attacking hockey (today) and the kind of attacking game we played in the second half gave us success.

"We clicked today but not in other matches.

"This win is for the whole team and for the millions who prayed for us back home."
