Pivotals firm up on bull run; Nifty up three points, 852.80

Pivotals firmed up as markets witnessed a marginal recovery towards the end of the trading session with good support from the bull operators at the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

S&P CNX Nifty opened at 850.30 points and closed slightly higher at 852.80 points after touching a day's high of 858.60 points and a low of 841.10 points to record a gain of three points over its previous close of 849.80 points.

CNX Nifty recorded a gain of 8.30 points when it closed at 1483.65 points after opening at 1475.50 points, as compared to its previous close of 1475.35 points.

A high of 1485.80 points and a low of 1458.40 points was recorded during the intra-day trading.

The S&P CNX Defty and CNX 500 also gained by 2.30 and 2.10 points to close at 694.55 and 589.53 points respectively. CNX Midcap 200 also rose marginally above its previous close by 0.84 points to close at 521.48 points.

The total traded value was Rs 11.56 billion involving 173,824 shares and a traded quantity of Rs 48.11 million. The debenture traded value was Rs 1.98 million. There were 400 advances, 494 declines and 112 unchanged movements with 50 securities hitting their price bands.

The top gainers were Glaxo, HDFC Bank, MTNL, Ashok Leyland, Tata Power while the top losers were East India Hotels, G E Shipping, Nestle, Hindalco and Bajaj Auto.

ITC recorded highest turnover of Rs 2.72 billion followed by Satyam Computer Rs 2.02 billion, Pentafour Software Rs 799.1 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 777.4 million, Reliance Rs 508.7 million, SBI Rs 475.2 million, Silverline Rs 293.8 million, Rolta Rs 267.8 million, HCL-HP to Rs 263.8 million, Dr Reddy's Rs 251.8 million, Tata Tea Rs 251.8 million, BFL Software Rs 221.9 million, MTNL Rs 205.6 million, Castrol Rs 182.6 million, L&T Rs 138.5, million, Hindustan Lever Rs 136.1 million, Square D Software Rs 129.9 million, ACC Rs 110.4 million, Telco Rs 95.7 million, BHEL Rs 95.3 million, Infosys Tech Rs 86.6 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 67.9 million, Bausch & Lomb Rs 66.7 million, Nestle Rs 64.3 million and BPCL Rs 63.9 million.

The wholesale debt market of NSE witnessed trades worth Rs 1.86 billion. The 11.55 per cent government loan maturing in 2001 was traded at Rs 450 million at a weighted yield of 11.44 per cent. The 11.95 per cent government loan maturing in 2004 was traded for Rs 100 million at a yield of 11.90 per cent.

The 364 day t-bill maturing on October 9 was traded at Rs 200 million at a weighted yield of 8.98 per cent. One repo trade worth Rs 100 million was transacted at a repo rate of 9.25 per cent for 12 days.
