Nifty up 9.7 pointsPivotals firmed up moderately on renewed buying support on the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the upward trend, the NSE-50 index gained 9.70 points to 1119.80 points as against the previous close of 1110.10 points. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index also firmed up by 9.40 points to 957.75 points over last Friday's close of 948.35 points. The Midcap index zoomed up by 41.70 points to 1592.65 points as compared to the last working day's close of 1550.95 points. The total turnover of 56 million shares in 181,382 trades stood at Rs 13 billion, wherein 651 scrips gained, 380 declined while 82 remained unchanged today. GE Shipping topped the gainers list with 7.56 per cent increase, followed by Telco 4.87 per cent, Glaxo 4.34 per cent, Tata Chem 4.18 per cent and ACC 3.15 per cent while BHEL figured first in the losers list with a 1 per cent loss, followed by BPCL 0.70 per cent, HDFC Bank 0.68 per cent, Hindalco 0.42 per cent and nestle 0.37 per cent. Among the securities which witnessed hectic activity today were ITC (Rs 2.2 billion turnover), Satyam Comp (Rs 1.6 billion), ACC (Rs 1.1 billion), SBI-N (Rs 1 billion), Reliance (Rs 739.2 million), Telco (Rs 421.9 million), Pentafour Software (Rs 413.2 million), BPL (Rs 324.6 million), L and T (Rs 317.7 million), Nestle (Rs 274.7 million), Tisco (Rs 273.3 million), Sterlite (Rs 262.9 million) and Infosystech (Rs 258.1 million). Other actively traded counters included Tata Tea (Rs 254.1 million), Videocon Intl (Rs 244.6 million), Castrol (Rs 209 million), BFL Software (Rs 166.7 million), Silverline (Rs 162 million), ICICI (Rs 157.7 million), BHEL (Rs 125.1 million), Hind Lever (Rs 120.9 million), Zee Tele (Rs 95.5 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 93.9 million) Cadbury (Rs 92.2) million and Nagar Fert (Rs 77 million).
